Old-School DJ Music Software eJay Migrates to Nu-School Touchscreen Devices

eJayLogo_JPGPRLog (Press Release)Apr. 4, 2013HERTFORDSHIRE, Watford, U.K.Watford, UK: April 4th, 2013 – The music software that inspired a generation will make its debut on iOS and Android touchscreens this year, if a new Kickstarter campaign is successful.
eJay Pure is a collaboration between independent developer Wired Productions and the original creators Helmut Schmitz and Bernhard Throll, designed specifically for touchscreen devices.
Back in 1996, the original eJay empowered PC users and move lovers of any ability to create their own original music tracks from a vast selection of samples, beats, riffs and effects. The simple drag and drop interface allowed budding DJs to concentrate on their compositions rather than wrestle with a complicated operating system. The result was spectacular tunes which could easily be compared to commercial releases.
eJay Pure will put the power of eJay into the hands of everyone. Functionality will be redesigned from the ground up to fully utilise the benefits of touchscreen technology. Users will be able to effortlessly drag and drop samples into their musical soundscapes, creating original music tracks on the fly.
The Challenge!
The team at Wired has been working on eJay Pure for the last nine months, and have completed pre-production, prototyping, technology RD, and have begun recording new samples. The remaining development budget for eJay Pure is £300,000. Wired Productions is putting in 50% – but it needs the support of the eJay community and new Pure fans to fund it through to completion.
£1 Pledge for ‘Pure’
The existing eJay community and new Pure fans can show their support for this Touchscreen rebirth by visiting our dedicated Kickstarter funding page. The remainder of the funds will ensure the project comes to completion – and soon. The software will be completely free for everyone to download to their Smartphones and own themselves. By pledging anything from £1upwards every single user will automatically receive 1000 royalty free samples – and much more.
Please visit the dedicated page here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wiredproductions/ejay… and remember you can pledge as little as £1 to receive the following…
£1 ‘Pure’ Pledge!
For just a £1 pledge you will receive the following gifts for your support:
•   1,000 Brand New Samples Exclusive to Kickstarter supporters [worth £20]
•   Credits ingame and on the website – Member of Hall of Fame
•   eJay Website Exclusive Kickstarter Backer Badge
•   Reserve your Username on eJay.com
•   Additional rewards are offering for larger pledge packages including downloadable copies of eJay PC titles, exclusive eJay Pure merchandise – and even the opportunity to record your own song for inclusion within the final version
•   Get flown to Stuttgart, Germany – the birthplace of eJay and spend 2 days with Marc Gminder and his team of engineers in ‘masterclasses’ for making music
•   All the tools and engineers at your disposal to create your own professional song of your dreams. Your song will also be used in the intro for eJay Pure, listened to by millions of people and you will get to meet the creators of eJay
“eJay was the first DJ music creation software to break into the mainstream, offering PC owners the chance to produce music tracks which could rival those created in expensive recording studios,” says Leo Zullo, managing director, Wired Productions.
“There are countless anecdotes of eJay providing the spark to ignite a career in music – many DJs who cut their teeth on the software are still active members of its community. We’re thrilled to be engineering the software from the ground up to enable anyone anywhere to compose their own masterpieces.”
“eJay singlehandedly created a music creation phenomenon,” says Helmut Schmitz, eJay Creator .
“Its simplicity belied an engine which allowed for incredible flexibility and stunning production values. Some of the tunes which emerged from the eJay series are still played in clubs all over the world. The idea that we’ll be able to put this technology into people’s hands is tremendously exciting.”

About eJay:
eJay http://www.ejay.com/uk/ was the brainchild of two visionaries, Helmut Schmitz and Bernhard Throll. They met in 1994 by chance and began talking about how they could bring music making to the masses. eJay was born and went on to become a music production power house with different genre versions, magazines, Carl Cox and other artists involved, and a website that was ahead of its time, with over 1 million registered users. eJay was taken over by a video game  publisher which later fell into administration and eJay was lost. The eJay creators Helmut and Bernhard secured the legacy of eJay by acquiring the rights in 2010, and now is preparing for the next chapter.

Plastic Logic Wins Award for Innovative Colour Flexible Displays

CAMBRIDGE, England, March 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ –

Plastic Logic is proud to announce that the company has been awarded the Elektronik Optoelectronic Product of the Year 2013 Award for its full colour flexible plastic displays.

Plastic Logic’s low-power unbreakable, colour and monochrome flexible plastic displays are thinner, lighter and much more robust than standard glass-based electrophoretic displays. The company has developed and qualified its process for the manufacture of these display, which can be read in all lighting conditions, including broad daylight and can be viewed from any angle. Plastic Logic’s displays are fully commercially available for integration in today’s next-generation applications and products. Full colour electrophoretic plastic displays represent a significant milestone, achieved by a radical new colour filter alignment process, which minimises distortion and enables perfect alignment of the flexible layers. The resulting display exceeds the colour performance of standard EPD-based glass displays, due to the reduced absorption and reflections seen with the plastic colour filter.

The Elektronik Product of the Year Awards are chosen by the readers of the Elektronik magazine, Germany’s leading names in German media for the developers and industrial users of electronic products. The ten most innovative and future-oriented products are nominated by the magazine’s editorial team in ten categories and presented to the readers, who then vote for their favourite products online or via post or fax. The winners are announced during the annual Elektronik Products of the Year Awards dinner. This year’s event marked the 15th anniversary of the awards and was held in Munich, Germany.

Indro Mukerjee, CEO Plastic Logic stated: “Plastic Logic’s development of a colour flexible plastic display is particularly significant, since the same process could enable unbreakable, flexible display solutions with other media such as LCD and OLED. The need for unbreakable and flexible electronic systems is the next frontier and I am delighted that the readers of Elektronik are so impressed by our displays, which are enabling companies to reach that frontier today. Plastic Logic is actively promoting its flexible plastic displays to OEMs and product manufacturers from a wide range of markets, include mobile devices, document replacement solutions, signage, healthcare, sportswear and automotive.”

About Plastic Logic

Since Plastic Logic was founded by researchers from the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University, the company has been at the forefront of research and investment into plastic electronics. The company has achieved many technological firsts including the production of high quality colour rugged plastic displays, demonstration of animation on an EPD driven by OTFTs and production yields of its flexible plastic displays comparable to the LCD industry. Plastic Logic is backed by major investors including Oak Investment Partners and Rusnano.
