Easy-to-Deploy Software Expands Storage Management and SAN Appliance Opportunities for Dell, IBM and HP Value-add Solution Providers

READING, UK. – February 28, 2012 –Today, DataCore Software, the storage hypervisor leader and premier provider of storage virtualisation software, announced a number of new business development initiatives to expand its base of volume resellers, system integrators, solid state disk (SSD) vendors and appliance system builders selling its solutions. To help its partners quickly take advantage of the lucrative, opportunities in storage, DataCore is providing access to the latest version of SANsymphony–V, – the storage hypervisor – along with the tools, programmes and organisation necessary to rapidly extend and transform existing product offerings into compelling solutions.

Highlights of the fast-start programme include rapid configuration wizards which includes guides to simplify product installation and deployment, accompanied by new interfaces for value-add integrations. New sales playbooks have also been developed to help partners open new accounts and quickly ramp up their business. Additionally, DataCore has put the right people and organisational components in place to make the programme a success. This includes a newly created centralised Business Development Team that helps guide, support, and work with larger system integrators, server and SSD vendors, and system builders looking to incorporate a storage hypervisor into their solution portfolio.

Organisations can realise tremendous value from virtualising storage and achieving maximum use of existing investments, including direct-attached storage (DAS), storage area network (SAN) and SSDs. The new DataCore initiatives makes it simple for partners to use the SANsymphony-V storage hypervisor to add value to and leverage existing infrastructure, including popular server hardware made by Dell, Intel, Super Micro, Fujitsu, IBM, HP, and new SSD and flash memory devices.

DataCore is committed to working with partners to build an ecosystem of appliance-focused, value-add versions of its storage hypervisor that meet their individual customer needs. As a result, integrators and resellers can quickly see market opportunities and increase volume sales by offering complete, pre-configured, out-of-the-box storage management and SAN solutions, powered by SANsymphony-V, which are easily to deploy in leading management platforms such as Microsoft System Center.

“By giving specialised appliance and system resellers the ability to expand their areas of expertise and service into the storage world, DataCore is enabling them to broaden their ongoing revenue streams,” said Chris Ilg, Director of Market Research, Infrastructure Channels and Alliances at IDC. “The ease of which the SANsymphony-V storage hypervisor integrates with top selling hardware – coupled with the support DataCore provides – simplifies the sales process and allows partners to easily introduce customers to the great productivity benefits and cost savings that a storage virtualisation solution can bring to virtual desktops, virtual data centers and private clouds.”

SANsymphony-V provides open application programme interfaces (APIs), supports application to backup facilities such as Microsoft VSS (volume shadow copy service), and Windows PowerShell advanced scripting support for even greater management system integration. Built-in wizards and powerful features include automated storage tiering that allows partners to easily customise solutions or add new technology or capabilities (any storage, SSD, flash cards) into the current mix, while also maximising the price and performance value of current storage assets. With the new tools and SANsymphony-V storage hypervisor, pre-packaged appliance-like solutions can be easily created to meet a wide range of needs or combined to manage an entire storage infrastructure encompassing both virtual and physical assets.

DataCore also announced today a number of enhancements to its Global Partner simplifying the entire sales process from initial contact to closing to ongoing product support and maintenance.

“Our volume resellers have unique challenges to address. With the new Partner Programme enhancements and the tools now available, they can further expand revenue opportunities, while minimising the time and effort required to market, sell, configure, deliver and install appliance-based solutions,” said Carlos M. Carreras, vice president of alliances and business development at DataCore. “We want to support them by making SANsymphony-V as attractive and simple as possible, enabling end-users to clearly see the great benefits that virtualisation technologies and our storage hypervisor hold.”

GraphVu Disk Space Analyzer 1.1 Release

GraphVu Disk Space AnalyzerPRLog (Press Release)Feb 29, 2012
GrpahVu Disk Space Analyzer 1.1 is an application for exploring disk directory structure and finding large space-consuming folders and files.

GrpahVu Disk Space Analyzer offers outstanding graphical representation of disk directory structure which is different from any other similar tool. Directory structures are presented as directed graphs with folders as nodes. The sizes of folder icons in a graph are proportionate to the sizes of folders they represent and users can clearly see which folders consume more disk space.

Nodes are arranged automatically using one of the 3 graph layouts, and users can adjust node positions manually as well. Diagrams can be rotated or flipped horizontally or vertically.

Disk scan is quick. Running disk scan can be paused at any time and users can view partial results, change scan priorities, hide folders if necessary then continue the paused scan.

Users can free space by moving files and folders to the recycle bin or by deleting them permanently.

Version 1.1 features performance and UI improvements and also fixes some minor issues found in version 1.0.

GraphVu Disk Space Analyzer 1.1 is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions and can be downloaded from http://graphvu.com.

FTDI Introduces X-Chip Series of Next Generation USB Interface ICs

PRLog (Press Release)Feb 29, 2012
USB solutions specialist Future Technology Devices International Limited (FTDI) has supplemented its portfolio of USB to serial interface products with the release of its new X-Chip series. Made up of devices in 13 different package options, X-Chip complements the company’s existing FT-R and FT-H offerings. The series supports a broad selection of interface types, such as basic UART, full UART, FIFO and I2C, as well as FTDI’s proprietary FT1248 I/O (including provision for enhanced SPI).

Through X-Chip, engineers are provided with a feature-rich USB 2.0 interface solution that will enhance system performance while simultaneously addressing major board level concerns, such as better space utilisation and reduced power consumption. Devices in the series are capable of data rates of up to 3.4 Mbits/s, while maintaining low power consumption,

With recent amendments being made to the USB specification regarding more rapid charging of portable electronics devices, the X-Chip has built-in functionality to detect a charging port and cause logic to switch from data transfer to charging mode. This feature means that detection does not have to be carried out by the system’s microcontroller/microprocessor, thereby allowing it to focus fully on its core activities. The end result is a simpler detection process and the capability to charge at a higher current level which shortens the time required for battery charging.

Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, Mac OS-X, Linux 3.2 (and above), plus Android operating systems are all supported, furnishing engineers with maximum design flexibility. Furthermore, the required USB drivers are free to download from the FTDI website. Since the entire USB protocol is handled by the device, the need for the programming of USB specific firmware can be negated. An internal 2048 byte, multi-time programmable (MTP) memory enables storage and configuration of the necessary device descriptors.

“By specifying the X-Chip into their designs, engineers will reduce their overall bill of materials and optimise PCB real estate,” states Fred Dart, CEO and founder of FTDI. “With its comprehensive feature set, the benefits of lower power, smaller device footprint and enhanced battery charging can all be realised, as well as the robust USB functionality that FTDI has always provided in its connectivity solutions.“

The devices in the X-Chip series are offered in compact SSOP, QFN and DFN packages. Each has an operational temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. As all the necessary USB support and bridging intelligence has been integrated into these devices and pre-validated, the expense, time and engineering resource needed to bring Full Speed USB connectivity into system designs is markedly reduced. In addition to the ICs, FTDI has released a wide-selection of development modules, enabling the different functions for each chip type, and thus allowing for easy device evaluation and prototyping development.

Pricing for the X-Chip series starts at US $1.93 (for 10-49 pcs). Complete information including datasheets, application notes, and product support material can be found at: http://www.ftdichip.com/FT-X.htm
